Stainless Steels were discovered less than a century ago. Its main characteristic is the so-called passive film. In the presence of oxygen, Stainless Steels naturally form a film of Chromium oxide (CrxOy) on their surface that resists corrosive attacks from external agents. Stainless Steels can be classified into four most important families, according to their metallographic structure: austenitic, ferritic, martensitic and Austenoferritic – Duplex and Super Duplex.
